How to start page numbering from page two?

Sometimes, when you work on a word document with a title page or cover page in Kingsoft Writer, you don't want the first page to have a page number. Instead, you may prefer to start page numbering from second page.

For Title Page

If you are using a title page, you can follow these steps to insert page numbers from page two. There are two steps:

• Remove / Hide page number on first page
• Start page numbering at 0

Remove / Hide page number on first page

• Click Insert tab, find Page Numbers option in Header&Footer group and click.
• In the Page Numbers dialog box, clear the check box before Show number on first page

In this way, page number will be hidden on the first page of your document.
 

Start page numbering at 0

• In Page Numbers dialog box, click More
• Under Page numbering, type 0 in Start at box.

In this way, the page numbers will start at 1 at the second page.

For Cover Page

If you are using a cover page, in order to hide the page number from cover page, you can follow these steps:

• Click anywhere on the cover page and go to Insert > Page Numbers
• Clear the check box before Show number on first page
• Select This Section in the Apply to list. 
• Click any where on your content pages and in Page Numbers dialog box, select the Show number on first page check box and select This Section in the Apply to list.

Comparison on paragraph layout features among word processors

Paragraph layout is one of the basic features of word processors. However, different programs have different ways to adjust paragraph layout like spacing and indent. Some are smart and fast while others are clumsy and slow.

Here we tested Microsoft Word 2007, OpenOffice.org Writer 3.3 and Kingsoft Writer 2012
of the paragraph adjusting feature, and Kingsoft Writer gives the best performance.

Let's see how they worked when adjusting line space and indent:

Microsoft Word 2007

1. Select the target paragraphs
2. On the Page Layout tab, in the Paragraph group, click the arrow s after
    Spacing Before or Spacing After and enter the desired amount of space. Same with Indent.

Or, shortcuts can be used to change line spacing quickly by:

Ctrl+1 1.0 line
Ctrl+2 2.0 lines
Ctrl+5 1.5 lines

However, if you want to change line spacing to other numbers, you have to use the above method.

OpenOffice.org Writer

In Tools->Customize->Keyboard, shortcuts can be customized so that you can use certain keys to increase/decrease indent, or set 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 line spacing.

Here comes the smartest way for changing line spacing, indent, and spacing before/after paragraph.

Kingsoft Writer 2012

 

• While you are writing, there will be a paragraph layout button on the left,like above
• Click this button and the whole paragraph will be selected. A new tab of Paragraph layout will appear in the tool bar. 
• Click each side of the square to change spacing before/after this paragraph, and indent spacing. 
• In the Paragraph Layout tab > Line Space group, click "+" or "-" to increase or decrease line spacing. Or if you would like to use customized line spacing, you can enter the number in the line spacing box. 

There is also option for tight spacing and loose spacing, so that they can be easily applied to the paragraph by a simple click. 

While, this paragraph adjustment tool can definitely save time and makes word processing more convenient.
